Irmiger of US wins 1st gold at Pan Am Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — The United States quickly moved to the top of the medals standings at the Pan American Games on Saturday, with Heather Irmiger winning the competition's first gold in the women's cross-country mountain bike race.

There are 10 more gold medals to be won on the first day of competition in Guadalajara, including five in the swimming pool.

Laura Lorenza Morfin of Mexico took silver in the mountain bike race, and Amanda Mae-Ling Sin of Canada was third.
