Health Insurer Announces Wellness Initiative for Its Members

Louisville, Ky. (AP) - Health insurer Humana Inc. has formed a joint venture with a South African company to offer a comprehensive wellness program for its millions of medical members.

As part of its deal with Discovery Holdings Ltd., Humana said Monday it will capitalize a new entity, U.S.-based HumanaVitality LLC. Discovery will hold a 25 percent stake in the new enterprise.

Louisville-based Humana said HumanaVitality will give its members the support to make healthy choices.

The company said HumanaVitality will open its headquarters in Chicago.

Humana also will acquire a 25 percent stake in the business of The Vitality Group, Discovery's U.S. subsidiary.

Discovery Vitality serves more than 1.9 million people worldwide as an incentive-based health-enhancement program.
