Washington (CNSNews.com) - Fighting what he described as "A critical policy failure" of the Clinton-Gore Administration regarding Russia, House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) appointed Representative Chris Cox (R-CA) to head a congressional task force on Russia to address a broad range including security, economic, and law enforcement issues inside the former Soviet Union.

The Clinton Administration's policies that have allowed corruption to flourish in Russia are tantamount to "criminal neglect," Cox told CNSNews.com.

The task force will examine "Every facet of the administration's current Russia policy," Hastert told CNSNews.com. He added that the U.S. should "learn from the failures of the past," in order to "chart a better course in the future" for its relations with Russia.
