GM-UAW reach tentative contract agreement
GM CONTRACT: General Motors and the United Auto Workers agreed late Friday on a tentative four-year contract. It sets the wages and benefits for 48,500 GM factory workers in the U.S.
WHAT IT SAYS: The UAW is keeping that under wraps until next week, when it meets with local union leaders in Detroit. But the union says the contract promises new products and jobs, enhances health care and profit-sharing and protects retirement benefits.
WHAT'S NEXT: Workers are expected to vote on the proposed contract in the next 10 days. The UAW must now finish negotiations with Ford and Chrysler.
