BOSTON (AP) — The younger sister of the 8-year-old boy killed in the Boston Marathon bombings has been released from the hospital to begin rehabilitation at another one.
The family of 7-year-old Jane Richard said she was transferred Thursday to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital after undergoing 12 surgeries at Boston Children's Hospital. Jane's left leg was amputated below the knee. Her brother, Martin, was one of three people killed in the April 15 explosions at the marathon finish line.
The Richards family said Jane is in good spirits and her determination to get better inspires them as they "remain devastated" over Martin's death.
More than 260 people were injured in the bombing. Two brothers are suspected of the attack; one was killed during a shootout with police; the other remains in custody.
