DETROIT (AP) — A prison spokesman says the Michigan parole board has voted to release former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Prisons spokesman Russ Marlan said Friday that Kilpatrick will be released no earlier than July 24, after more than a year in custody for violating probation in a criminal case that forced him out of office in 2008.

Kilpatrick will be free to prepare for trial in 2012 on unrelated federal corruption charges.
