(CNSNews.com) – The annual Easter Egg Roll on the White House South Lawn on Monday adopted First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to fight childhood obesity as children took part in activities that included cooking demonstrations and sports courts to celebrate “nutrition and health and activity.”
“It’s great to have everyone here this morning,” Mrs. Obama said. “We are so excited.”
“The Easter Egg Roll is the biggest event that we have here on the South Lawn of the White House each year,” said the first lady. “Today, we’re going to have more than 30,000 people who will pass through this yard in celebration of nutrition and health and activity.”
The White House web site said the day’s activities “will help educate families on smart ways to incorporate healthy eating and exercise choices into their daily routines, which are key pillars of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.”
“So today, we want you to have a great time,” Mrs. Obama said. “We want you to run around.”
“We want you to go over and see the White House Garden,” Mrs. Obama said. “We want you to learn about making tasty, healthy food.”
The children also received an activity book, which also can be downloaded from the White House web site. The book includes a word puzzle and two coloring-book drawings, one featuring a rabbit dancing with the Obama’s dog Bo surrounded by mushrooms, carrots, eggplants, strawberries and grapes.
