(CNSNews.com) - One of America's largest federal government employee unions, the National Association of Government Employees announced on Friday it is endorsing Texas Governor George W Bush for President. NAGE represents an estimated 100,000 federal employees. It endorsed Clinton/Gore in 1992 and 1996. NAGE is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO.

"George W Bush is a leader, a man of integrity, and the right man to be President because this country is ready for new leadership in Washington. Governor Bush will change the role of government for the better. We strongly endorse his candidacy for the highest office in our land," said NAGE National President Kenneth Lyons.

Bush was happy with the endorsement.

"Our government can be more responsive to the people it represents if it empowers them to make decisions about their money, their children's education, and their retirement. I am honored NAGE's federal employees support my philosophy of government," Governor Bush said in a statement released from his campaign headquarters in Austin, Texas.

The AFL-CIO had no comment on the NAGE endorsement when contacted Friday in Washington.

The AFL-CIO has endorsed Vice President Gore for President. The United Auto Workers Union and the Teamsters Union have endorsed Gore as well.
