(CNSNews.com) – Police in Fairfax, Va., are searching for 5-year-old Cameron Serafin, who may be in danger and whose hair apparently has been dyed dark brown (from natural blond) to change his appearance. A felony arrest warrant for his mother has been issued and it is believed that she is traveling out west with the boy.

Cameron Serafin, who is 3-feet-5-inches tall and weighs 40 pounds, was supposed to have been returned to his father on Monday, Apr. 8, and police believe he is in the company of his mother, Rebecca Serafin, 32, who may be using the name Rebecca Love.

While a warrant for misdemeanor custodial interference was initially issued in the case, police now say Rebecca Serafin has crossed state lines and, as a result, the felony warrant for her arrest was issued today. The police are asking the public for assistance in locating the boy.

Cameron’s father, Joe Serafin, told CNSNews.com that Cameron frequently wears a red sweat shirt, enjoys playing on electronic devices, such as an iPad, and that his real hair color is blond.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, “Rebecca Serafin has altered her appearance, and that of Cameron, in an apparent attempt to avoid being located. Serafin’s car and other items have been discovered, adding to the belief  that she is attempting to remain undetected.”

Rebecca Serafin’s car was located by police in the parking lot of the Lyon Village Shopping Center in Arlington, Va. A passport-size photograph of Cameron Serafin, with dark-brown hair, was found in the car.
