(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) made reference to the marathon verbal assault on Obamacare Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made on the Senate floor this week, telling reporters, “You can huff and you can puff for 21 hours, but you cannot blow the Affordable Care Act away.”

Democratic Senators gathered for a press conference Thursday to make their arguments for rejecting the House- passed continuing resolution (CR) that funds the government but not Obamacare.

If the Senate rejects the CR as planned and sends another bill back to the House, the federal government could shut down due to lack of funding.

But even though the Senate is rejecting the measure that would fund the government, Democratic leaders claim that the blame for any shutdown should lie with the GOP.

“They know they’re shutting down the government because they know that their CR will never pass this body and will never be signed by a president, ” Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.

“We have all made it very clear. We want a clean CR, we’re going to have a clean CR,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters.
