SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Documents show investigators looking into the shooting deaths of two British tourists in Florida say they matched bullets found in the suspect's room with the caliber used to kill the pair.
Sarasota County court documents released Tuesday also indicate that anonymous tips led them to search the home of 16-year-old Shawn Tyson, where they found .22 caliber bullets. Police say 24-year-old James Kouzaris and 25-year-old James Cooper were killed with the same caliber of bullets.
Tyson has been charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder in the April 16 shootings. Police are still trying to figure out why the British men were in a housing project, where they were killed, after a night of drinking in Sarasota bars.
