DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit police officer has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the slaying of a 7-year-old girl who was shot to death during a raid on her home that was being filmed by a reality television crew.

Officer Joseph Weekley was charged Tuesday after a yearlong Michigan State Police investigation into the May 2010 death of Aiyana Stanley-Jones. A judge entered a not-guilty plea for Weekley at an afternoon court hearing.

Aiyana was asleep on a sofa in the first-floor living room of a two-family home when officers tossed a flash grenade through a window and stormed the house. It later was determined she was shot by Weekley.

The raid was being filmed as part of a segment for popular cable crime reality show "The First 48."
