DOVER, Del. (AP) — A once wealthy and politically connected Delaware attorney serving life in prison for killing his mistress who worked in the governor's office has been found dead in his prison cell.

State officials said 61-year-old Tom Capano was found unresponsive Monday morning in his cell at the state prison in Smyrna. He was pronounced dead shortly after noon.

Capano was convicted of shooting his mistress, Ann Marie Fahey, after she decided to end an affair with him in 1996. He had spent time on death row before his death sentence was overturned.

Fahey was the scheduling secretary to then-Gov. Tom Carper, now Delaware's senior U.S. senator.
