UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say an ex-convict hid out in a vacant room at a central New York motel for several days before he sexually assaulted and strangled the motel owner in her bedroom.
Utica Police Chief Mark Williams tells local media outlets that investigators believe 45-year-old Robert Blainey broke into an empty room at the Davis Motel in North Utica.
Williams says Blainey attacked the motel's owner, 68-year-old Linda Turner, on Nov. 2. Her body was found the next day.
Blainey was arrested in Pennsylvania on Monday in Turner's car.
Blainey was released from prison in 2009 after serving time for raping two women in the 1980s. He's jailed on a parole violation but police say he'll likely be charged with rape and murder.
Oneida County prosecutors say they don't know if Blainey has an attorney.
