(CNSNews.com) - Penny Nance, chief executive officer of Concerned Women for America, said today that a new Gallup poll showing that 61 percent of Americans believe abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances is an indication of the pro-life trend in American society.

“The latest Gallup poll is only the latest in a clear pro-life public opinion trend,” said Nance.

“As technology advances with sonograms and ultrasounds, increasingly every parent and grandparent can’t help but adopt a sympathetic embrace of the pro-life position,” she said.

“Abortion destroys human life at its most innocent and vulnerable and in the almost 40 years since the Roe v. Wade decision, whole generations have been lost to the lie of abortion,” said Nance.

“It is long past time that Congress, state legislatures and judges on every bench realize that Roe was wrongly decided and innocent human life must be welcomed in life and protected in law,” she said. “Congress can start by defunding Planned Parenthood which disgustingly uses taxpayer money to finance abortions and then blatantly lies about it.”

Concerned Women for America is a national organization dedicated to bringing Biblical principles to public policymaking at all levels of government in the United States.

In a survey conducted May 5-8 and released yesterday, Gallup asked 1,018 American adults whether they believed abortion should be legal. Only 27 percent said it should be legal in any circumstance whatsoever, while about 71 percent said it should be illegal in at least some cases. That included 22 percent who said abortion should be illegal in “all circumstances” and 39 percent who said it should be legal in “only a few circumstances,” making a majority of 61 percent of Americans who believe abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.
