California Democrat to Resign from U.S. House Seat

Washington (AP) - Two Democratic leadership aides say Democratic Rep. Jane Harman of California is resigning from the House.

The 65-year-old Harman represents a Democratic-safe district is suburban Los Angeles. She was first elected to the House is 1992. After losing a race for governor, she regained the seat in 2000.

Harman is a leading voice for Democrats on intelligence and homeland security issues.

The Democratic aides spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
