(CNSNews.com) - New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani on Friday announced he is endorsing Texas Governor George W Bush for President.

Giuliani said at a New York news conference, "I believe that Governor Bush is the best candidate to be the next President of the United States. His record as Governor of Texas has proven this. From his reforms in education and welfare to his success in cutting taxes and reducing crime, the governor's leadership in Texas has shown that he has the vision to lead the country."

Bush heard the endorsement by phone and told Giuliani during the news conference, "I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have your endorsement. I am really honored. You are doing a fabulous job."

The Texas governor plans to campaign in New York next week and is expected to make stops in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and New York City.

Bush has received endorsements from New York Governor George Pataki and many Republican members of the New York state congressional delegation.
