(  - House Speaker John Boehner issued a statement today saying he was horrified by the shooting attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and that his prayers are with her, her staff, those who were injured and their families.
“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff," Boehner said. "An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve.  Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families.  This is a sad day for our country."
The Associated Press is reporting that Giffords, who was wounded in the head, is responding to her doctors at the hospital where she was taken. A 9-year-old boy and a federal judge were killed in the attack in which Giffords was wounded, the news service reported.
