(CNSNews.com) -- In response to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) suggestion that defunding Planned Parenthood in the health care bill dishonors God, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said Pelosi's claims were "abhorrent" and that there "is no dignity in single-handedly silencing over 320,000 unborn voices without their consent."

During a June 29 press conference at the Capitol,  Rep. Pelosi said, “I think defunding Planned Parenthood disrespects every woman in this country, disrespects her judgment to make her own decision about the size and timing of her family, with herself, her doctor, her God, her family.”

“I think we have to respect the dignity and worth of every person and their ability to make decisions to answer for their behavior,” she said.

In a statement, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said, “The foundation of the pro-life movement rests on the belief that every life is a gift and that every person has inherent dignity from the moment they are conceived.”

“For Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to suggest that funding Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion provider, adheres to these values is simply abhorrent,” said Mancini.

“There is no dignity in single-handedly silencing over 320,000 unborn voices without their consent, nor respect for human life in trafficking the hearts, lungs, and livers of the innocent for profit,” she said.

Mancini continued, “Instead, we should respect the consensus of the American people who do not want their tax dollars funding abortion, and restore their ability to decide how the government represents them.”

In its latest annual report (2015-16), Planned Parenthood reports that it performed 328,348 abortions in the year that ended on Sept. 30, 2015, and received $554.6 million in “government health services reimbursements and grants” – money that came from U.S. taxpayers – in the year that ended on June 30, 2016.

In 2014-15, Planned Parenthood performed 323,999 abortions and received $553.7 million from the taxpayers.
