(CNSNews.com) – Ann Romney told supporters “we need a grown up” in the White House because of the challenges facing the world, according to a recently released audio from a March fundraiser.
The liberal magazine Mother Jones released the audio, which reportedly was recorded during an event at the home of Michelle and David Horowitz in Irvine, California, on March 27.
At the fundraiser, Romney asked his wife to give brief remarks, since she was “the person that got me into this affair” -- the heated Republican primary.
“You know—the ship's going over the waterfall, it's almost there,” Mrs. Romney said. “And we look what's happening in Greece, and we look what's happening around the world, we look what's happening internationally.”
“This is a frightening world, and we need a grown-up, and we need someone that understands the economy,” she said. “So I'm glad Mitt is grown up to you all.”
Mrs. Romney began by discussing Mitt’s decision to enter the race. “It was interesting that it was Mitt who was being very rational about how difficult it is to win the nomination, and I’m like, ‘Don’t give me any of that. I don’t want to hear about it, because if you’re supposed to do it, it’s going to happen,’” she said.
“And he said, ‘I don’t know -- it’s going to be hard to beat Obama,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t want to hear anything about that. Yes, it’s going to be hard, but I need to know one thing. If you can get in there is it still okay to fix it, is it too late?’” she asked. “And he goes, ‘I think I can still fix it.’”
“So that’s what we have to do,” Mrs. Romney said. “And that’s why you all are here, we have to fix it, we’re running out of time.”
