American Fried Chicken Comes to Palestinian Territories
(CNSNews.com) - An American fried chicken outlet is the first U.S. fast-food chain to open in the Palestinian territories. People in Ramallah lined on Saturday at the new KFC, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A Palestinian entrepreneur said he had no problem getting the franchise from "the mother company," and he says plans are under way to open a Pizza Hut.
Adeeb Bakri, owner of two department stores and three radio stations in Ramallah, said he wasn't deterred by calls for a boycott of American products because of U.S. support for Israel.
"Why should people boycott our restaurant?" he said. "Everything we use here is 100% Palestinian; the chicken is bought at a West Bank farm, and so is the bread, and the employees are all Palestinian and almost everything else we use in the restaurant, except the recipe, which comes straight from the U.S."
