(CNSNews.com) - At the annual March for Life rally at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) called abortionists “victim makers,” and said the death toll “equates to the entire population of England.”
The March for Life rally drew pro-life advocates to mark the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe vs. Wade ruling abortion constitutional.
“You know as well as I that abortionists are victim makers. And since 1973, more than 56 million children have been brutally slain, a death toll that equates to the entire population of England,” Smith said.
Smith later pointed out that federal funding for abortion “breaks another solemn promise.”
“Americans were repeatedly told by President Obama himself including in his speech to a joint session of Congress … 'under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortion.' Oh if that were only true. Under Obamacare, billions of dollars in the forms of tax credits are today buying abortion-subsidizing health insurance plans in exchanges throughout the country.”
He praised the House for their leadership on pro-life legislation and also state governments for enacting 200 pro-life laws in the last three years.
Smith noted that the pro-life movement is alive and well “despite the fact that President Obama is using stealth, deception and the coercive power of the state to promote abortion violence.”
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) echoed Smith’s positivity on the movement saying, “I believe that one day in the not too distant future, our movement will be victorious, because we will prevail in securing a culture of life in America.”
Other House members that attended were Reps. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.), Keith Rothfus (R-Pa.), Andy Harris (R-Md.), Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.), Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), Rob Latta (R-Ohio) and Ann Wagner (R-Mo.).
