(CNSNews.com) – The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the political arm of one of the largest abortion providers in the United States, launched a campaign last week aimed at raising funds by soliciting Mother’s Day donations in conjunction with renowned children’s book author Judy Blume.
The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the advocacy division of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10.
Though the Action Fund did not respond to CNSNews.com’s numerous requests for comment, Joseph M. Scheidler, national director of the Pro-Life Action League, expressed outrage that the organization would use a holiday dedicated to motherhood to promote abortion, which he said is the opposite of motherhood.
In the April 15 letter aimed at potential donors to the Action Fund, Blume writes: “I’m a mom, and I’m also a writer and an activist. Nothing has made me prouder than seeing my own children – and really, all young people – grow up to be healthy, educated, and in charge of their bodies and their lives. That’s where Planned Parenthood comes in. There is no organization that I know of that supports motherhood and all that it means more than Planned Parenthood.”
“… By honoring a mother in your life with a gift to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, you’ll be making a gift that protects and advocates for the health of millions of mothers and families,” wrote Blume. “That’s a gift any mother will appreciate.”
Scheidler said he is offended by Planned Parenthood’s idea of linking abortion with motherhood.
“Their idea is motherhood for only a wanted child,” Scheidler told CNSNews.com. “If the child is unwanted or inconvenient then they want abortion. They are the biggest promoter of abortion of any organization in the world.
“Any motherhood campaign they run is as phony as a three dollar bill,” said Scheidler. “They don’t care about motherhood. It’s a gimmick, and I don’t know if it fools anybody – but if it does – they are foolish to listen to Planned Parenthood about motherhood because we know what they do.”
Blume is an America children’s author who has written some books considered controversial, such as “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.”
