9/11 memorial: General reservations start July 11
NEW YORK (AP) — The general public can begin making reservations to visit the Sept. 11 memorial at the World Trade Center site in New York City on July 11 for dates after the terror attacks' 10th anniversary.
The National Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum announced the arrangements Friday to victims' family members, who will be able to start making reservations with a five-day lead on July 6 through a special phone number. The general public will be directed to an online system.
The memorial also will set aside passes every day for victims' relatives.
The memorial is opening Sept. 11, 2011, but President Joe Daniels says ongoing construction means visits have to be scheduled. An estimated 4 million to 5 million people are expected to visit within a year.
