In the Spirit of 'Occupy,' Nickelback's New Song Calls for 'Revolution'

Remember Nickelback? The Canadian band that everyone loves to hate? Their latest release "Edge Of A Revolution" echoed the Occupy Wall Street movement's mantra with a disturbing call for "revolution."

In the song, which was released on Aug 19 (although the music video was just posted yesterday), the band screams out that "it's time we all relied on the last solution" and tells its listeners that "we can't lay down and accept this fate."

The song repeated widely-held, and fairly nonpartisan, mistrust for the NSA and CIA, the lyrics move to focus their anger on the "Wall Street, common thief" and call for high wages with a cry of "can't be fed if I didn't get paid." The bridge of the song includes a call and response of "What do we want?/We want change!/Standing on the edge of a revolution"

The music video featured someone in a hooded sweatshirt spray painting the song lyrics on walls, doors and cars in a city. It was unclear whether or not the inclusion of a hoodie was a reference to Trayvon Martin, or simply of someone not wanting to be recognized.

In parts of the song, this "revolutionary" also wears a cloth mask and waves a flag, while running through the streets in this purposefully grainy footage:

"Edge of A Revolution," by Nickelback

Wall Street, common thief
When they get caught they all go free
A brand new yacht and a finders fee
Standing on the edge of a revolution

Same shit, different day
Can't keep fed if I can't get paid
We'll all be dead if the s**t don't change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

No, we won't give up, we won't go away
'Cause we're not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don't wanna hear another word you say
'Cause we know they're all depending on mass confusion
No, we can't turn back, we can't turn away
'Cause it's time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won't lay down and accept this fate
'Cause we're standing on the edge of a revolution

We'll all be dead if this s**t don't change
Hey hey hey hey

What do we want? We want the change
And how're we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change
Standing on the edge of a revolution
