A University student with a sad childhood looked to Craigslist to rent a family for the holidays, but she ended up creating a new family through her online ad.

KXTV in California delivered the powerful story of Jackie Turner. Turner, who had been sexually and emotionally abused as a child, posted an ad on Craigslist looking to rent a family for Christmas.

"I am looking to rent a mom and dad who can give me attention and make me feel like the light of their life just for a couple of days because I really need it," Turner’s Craigslist post said.

Turner was willing to pay $8 an hour, but she found something more valuable than she could ever purchase.

While many families offered to take her in for free, others shared with her their stories of abuse, life in foster homes and similar feelings of abandonment.

The William Jessup University student now plans to have a gathering of those who responded to her ad.

“When you speak up, people start learning that they’re not by themselves,” Turner said.
