Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a reputation for being tough on crime. But he may have met his match on this one:

Stray packs of Chihuahuas are reportedly roaming the streets of Phoenix AZ, ready to snarl and yap at anyone who is unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Animal control officials say they have received thousands of calls about the roaming dogs, but are having trouble catching them.  They are so small and quick that by the time Animal Control authorities arrive the Chihuahuas have already fled the scene.

Animal control officials believe that the sudden infestation of small Mexican dogs is related to undocumented workers leaving the Phoenix area and not taking their dogs with them. Chihuahuas are apparently one of the most popular breeds at Maricopa County animal shelters. (I didn't make this up).

If you see a roaming pack of Chihuahuas resist the urge to break out in laughter. Immediately drop your Doritos Locos Taco and GET INDOORS!!

The Chihuahua can be deadly if provoked. In the old west it is said that even a small pack of 12 to 15 Chihuahuas could bring down even the most hardened gunslinger.

So be wary.  If you live in Phoenix it's time to accept the fact that it's not your city anymore.  The city belongs to the Chihuahuas now.
