According to a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 17 percent of those currently employed in the United States expect to find themselves unemployed at some point during the new year.

The survey of approximately 1,200 people found that slightly fewer Americans expected to lose their job in 2014 in December of last year than in November. However the number was nearly 20% in June of 2013.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York began collecting data on American's attitudes towards the job market last year.  The first set of results were released Monday and bank officials say they will release updated results every month from this point forward.

Results of the survey will help Fed officials to set monetary policy.
