Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who will chair the new House Select Committee on the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, said Sunday that the Democrat Party's outrage over GOP fundraising is hypocritical because Democrats fundraise off tragedies, too.

Gowdy accused Democrats of having "selective amnesia," given their past efforts to profit from tragedies such as the Sandy Hook shooting, Hurricane Katrina, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Last week, House Speaker John Boehner refused to say whether the GOP would refrain from using the hearings to fundraise, although Gowdy himself said he would abstain from personally fundraising and urged his colleagues to do the same.

Additionally, IJ Review compiled a list of five more tragedies that were used in fundraising material.
