America, meet your new 2016 Presidential front-runner...

The Washington Post’s Wonkblog compared the favorability ratings of famous characters from Star Wars with Gallup’s favorability ratings of potential 2016 candidates. The result was a potentially new low in American politics. One of the most evil fictional characters of all time has higher poll numbers than any potential presidential candidate.

The Star Wars polling was taken from Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight, who recently performed a study of Americans’ opinions on the timeless pair of trilogies.

Darth Vader Out-Polls Presidential Candidates

The highest rated real-life politicians are Hillary Clinton and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. But they are beaten out by four fictional Star Wars figures. Clinton is tied with Boba Fett (the bounty hunter who froze Han Solo in carbonite).

While Vader handily defeats all real-life challengers, three characters dominate the polling. Topping the list is Luke Skywalker, followed by Han Solo and Yoda. Their favorables are all over 80%.

Also noteworthy is Emperor Palpatine out-polling current President Barack Obama. Not surprisingly, Congress took dead last place in the polling. Their popularity remains at historic lows, beaten out by lice, root canals, and used car salesmen.
