Jack Bauer is back, at least for 12 more episodes.
For those who were never bought into the "24" phenomenon that dominated TV for nearly a decade, Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) has faced down threats ranging from nerve gas to nuclear weapons and bio-weapons - and even a White House siege. Bauer is always in the middle of it as a single day plays out each season in real time.
This new reboot, dubbed a "limited event series" by Fox, is just 12 episodes, instead of the typical 24. The series is based in London, England, instead of the United States. Jack is a fugitive after the events of season eight, but surfaces to thwart yet another threat to American and world security.
"Live Another Day" does bring back many of the show's most memorable characters. James Heller (William Devane), the tough-minded former Secretary of Defense is now President. His daughter, and Jack's ex-lover, Audrey (Kim Raver) has recovered after she was left in a catatonic state at the end of the show's sixth season. And, of course, infamous techie Chloe O'Brien (Mary Lynn Rajskub) is back, but not on Jack's side.
If you need a primer on each of the show's eight seasons from 2001-10, IGN has very effective, short recaps. MRCTV Blog will have reviews and synopses the day after each episode.
"24: Live Another Day" premieres tonight as a two-hour event.
