GOP's Romney defends ad's use of Obama 2008 line
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is defending his campaign's first television advertisement as fair game, despite criticism that it takes President Barack Obama's remarks out of context.
The former Massachusetts governor says during a stop in Iowa Wednesday that the 60-second spot now airing in New Hampshire rightly uses Obama's words to suggest that the president does not want to talk about the dire economy.
The ad omits that the comments Obama made in New Hampshire in 2008 were paraphrasing Republican John McCain's campaign.
Romney tells reporters his campaign released the ad with press releases indicating Obama was referring to McCain.
Romney says there was no attempt to hide the facts.
