On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Wednesday, host Mark Levin explained that the media and Democrats in Washington “are wetting themselves” over the appointment of a special counsel to oversee the Trump-Russia probe.
“The media in Washington are wetting themselves,” said Mark Levin. “The Democrats in Washington are wetting themselves, but they won’t show it. They’ll find another reason to attack. They will definitely continue to attack with the Comey ‘memo’ and keep claiming potential obstruction of justice, and this has nothing to do with the appointment of a special counsel and this, that and all the rest.”
Levin’s comments come after former FBI Director Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel to oversee Trump-Russia probe.
Below is a transcript of Levin’s comments from his show:
“Well, the Democrats got what they wanted, ladies and gentleman.
“‘The United States Department of Justice has just announced that a special counsel has been appointed to investigate Russian interference into last year’s presidential election,’ reports ABC News.
“‘Former FBI Director Robert Mueller was assigned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to "oversee the previously-confirmed FBI investigation of Russian government efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and related matters."
“‘In a statement, Rosenstein said, "My decision is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted. I have made no … determination. What I have determined is that based upon the unique circumstances, the public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command."
“‘Mueller will have 60 days to put together a budget for resources to conduct the investigation and that budget must be approved by Rosenstein. …
“‘“Special Counsel Mueller will have all appropriate resources to conduct a thorough and complete investigation, and I am confident that he will follow the facts, apply the law and reach a just result."’
“Mueller was the previous FBI Director, you may recall. He was also a United States attorney, and he will have all the powers of the United States attorney.
“The Democrats got what they wanted, didn’t they, ladies and gentleman?
“Now we will have a prosecutor focused fully and solely on one matter, which is an aberration. That’s not how prosecutors are supposed to function.
“We shall see, no special prosecutor at all during the Obama administration, not on the Iran-contra deal, not on the Hillary Clinton emails, not on the IRS case, not on Fast and Furious, not on any of it. None of it. None of it rose to the level of special counsel.
“The media in Washington are wetting themselves. The Democrats in Washington are wetting themselves, but they won’t show it. They’ll find another reason to attack. They will definitely continue to attack with the Comey ‘memo’ and keep claiming potential obstruction of justice, and this has nothing to do with the appointment of a special counsel and this, that and all the rest.
“As you can see, the injustice of it all is really quite troubling.
“Alright, kill the music. Thank you.
“Special counsel – just a matter of time wasn’t it?
“Mr. Rosenstein buckled. He is to brief the entirety of the U.S. Senate tomorrow [Friday] on matters that are occurring. I’ve never seen anything like that before.
“On the firing of Comey, he is to brief all United States Senators. Can you remember the last time that happened?
“So all this is to created sort of a breathtaking environment of lawlessness and constitutional crisis. Now we have a special counsel. The Democrats will do fundraising into the Russia matter.
“Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable.
“Now this is going to take a while because what happens here is he’s got to get a budget, he’s got to staff his office, he has to come up to speed on what’s already been investigated, what’s already been done. He will essentially be answerable to nobody.
“And so, the Democrats have succeeded on this Russia issue, which they’ve been talking about now for months, to politically force the appointment of a special counsel less than four months into this presidency. Just think about that – less than four months into this presidency.
“The reporting leading up to this has been a disgrace – an absolute disgrace.”
