White House Press Secretary Jay Carney acknowledged senior level staffers in the White House knew of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scandal, but that it was never brought up to President Obama.

A reporter asked, "My question is really about: Is the president always going to wear blinders if an IG report is going on, is what I'm trying to get at. So, in the last month, I just want to make sure I understand this, when the president sat down every day with his chief of staff, or he met with his treasury secretary, they understood in general what was happening with this particular issue and they never said anything to the president?"

Carney responded:

"Well that's correct beginning with April 24th, in terms of the White House Counsel and the chief of staff. Again, I think any examination of the previous, well, three weeks leading up to last week, would say there was a lot of information that could be discussed in the meetings with the president and there was."
