Michael Hammond, legal counsel for Gun Owners of America, told "Right Views" in a phone interview that he believes the administration has "contempt" for gun owners.
Right Views asked, "In terms of understanding the Second Amendment, do you think the administration understands that the Founders included the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights as a safeguard against tyranny?
"Do you think that they accept it? Do you think that they understand it? Do you think that they don't care?"
"No, I don't think they accept it. I think there's a fundamental disconnect here. You're talking about two sets of people who come from fundamentally different places and are under fundamentally different circumstances.
"Biden and his east coast people don't understand - and I think, in fact have contempt for a huge cohort of Americans who are by and large poorer than they are - but, grow up in a tradition of having and understand and being comfortable with and using firearms.
"And the Biden's of the world just can't comprehend those people and I don't think they'll ever be able to."
"Right Views" asked Mr. Hammond to comment on Biden's claim that the country is on the verge of universal background checks.
"I think that's a lie. Biden frequently tells mistruths," Hammond said.
"I think it is inconceivable to me that they have the votes to invoke cloture on the background bills that now exist," he added.
Hammond stated that Gun Owners of America opposes all aspects of universal background checks.
"We call it the universal registry bill because we think it will effectively lead to gun registries, for a number of reasons," he said.
Mr. Hammond also told the "Right Views" that membership at Gun Owners of America has doubled since the beginning of the year to about 300,000 members.
"I have done, out of self-interest, a casual arithmetic count on where we must be, and there are various ways in which you can tabulate membership.
"But, my seat of the pants estimate is that by virtually every count we have come pretty close to doubling. It's a huge thing. It's a huge thing for us. It's a huge thing for NRA."
