Yes. He really said that.

During a late January appearance on Current TV (it’s no wonder we didn’t hear about it until now) Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn) said that the GOP is “a wholly owned subsidiary of the NRA”.

Then he took his rhetoric up a notch saying, “They represent special interests, gun manufactures, weapons manufactures - who basically traffic in death - and this is a stain on them.”

What caused this stain? Failure to support an assault weapons ban.

Oh, and "everything else".

Current TV host Cenk Uygur asked Ellison, “Reports are that the Republicans are going to say ‘no’ to the assault weapons ban, the high capacity magazine ban and background checks and everything else. So how in the world do you react if that’s their position?”

Ellison replied, “I think that’s a moral failure. I think that it proves they’re a wholly owned subsidiary of the NRA. They don’t represent the districts they come from, they represent special interests, gun manufactures, weapons manufactures  -who basically traffic in death and this is a stain on them.”
