Levin Refutes Obama Claim: You Didn't Build That 'Greatest Middle Class,' 'We The People Did It'
Last night, radio host Mark Levin said the American people, not government, built what Pres. Obama deemed "the greatest middle class" the world has ever known.
Discussing President Obama’s remarks at a campaign stop in Mansfield, Ohio yesterday, where he stated, “And four years ago, we came together -- to restore the basic bargain that built the greatest middle class and the most prosperous country the world has ever known”, Levin said:
“Economic activity, economic activity existed before the Federal government. It even existed before Obama. It existed before Obamacare, it existed before the New Deal, the Great Society, the Fair Deal, the Square Deal, all the schlameals and the deals and all the rest of it.
“That’s right. Society comes before government. We don’t have a caste system in America. We don’t have a class system in America. The left uses the language of Karl Marx and Engels and tries to project it into our own society, which is why I get frustrated when Republicans talk this way.
“I mean we have a feel for rich and non-rich, I get that. But for the left, for Obama, for the Statists and so forth- this is the mantra, taken right from Marx. We have this endless class struggle going on in our country, when there’s no class struggle going on in our country. Get off your ass and go do something. Make as much money as you want, or as little.
“[President Obama said] ‘But to restore the basic bargain that built the greatest middle class and most prosperous country the world has ever known’. We didn’t have masterminds sitting around in some government office building the greatest middle class and most prosperous country the world has ever known. No President, no Congress, no Court system. We the people did it.
“But this is on top of when [Obama] talks about the individual having really no value. Your hard work, your success, your smarts- that’s not why you’re really what you are, what you’ve achieved what you are- it’s government.
“That’s why he talks about tax cuts costing the government, because your money doesn’t belong to you- it belongs to the government. And now we have this ‘grand bargain’, the ‘basic bargain’, that we built the greatest middle class. Who built the greatest middle class? What government program did that? What Congress did that? What President did that? None of them.”
