Pro-life members of Congress voiced their support for, and at, yesterday’s annual March for Life in Washington, DC.
‘With Ultrasound, Everyone Can See It Is A Baby’
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-Maryland)
Release regarding comments at the March for Life 2012 Rally:
- “When I was teaching medical school, I knew it was a baby.”
- “Now, with ultrasound, everyone can see that it is a baby.”
- “I think with our tech-savvy young people coming of age to vote that Roe v. Wade will be history sooner rather than later."
‘Ending A Life For The Sake Of Convenience Is Not A Right’
U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.)
Statement regarding the March for Life:
“Each year, abortion takes the lives of more than 1 million unborn children in our nation. Thirty-nine years after the Roe v. Wade, the ruling continues to be a blight upon our nation that undermines our value for life, family, and responsibility.”
”President Obama views abortion as a right for women to have reproductive freedom. He even said that abortion gives our daughters the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. I stand with those who today say: No Mr. President! Ending a life for the sake of convenience is not a right! Hundreds of thousands of girls never had the opportunity to fulfill their dreams because their lives were snuffed out before they ever took their first breath.”
‘Our Founding Fathers Articulated Their Vision For A Pro-Life America’
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio)
Comments on the March for Life:
“Today in our nation’s capital and across the country, we celebrate and honor in a special way, the precious gift of life. I am energized by the fact that tens of thousands of Americans traveled long distances and braved the elements to stand up for innocent life during this, the 39th annual March for Life. The vast majority of Americans share the values of those gathered in Washington today.”
“Our Founders articulated their vision for a pro-life America, and I believe they would be proud to see the tireless advocacy happening in Washington and in communities across the country that is changing hearts and minds to restore a culture of life in our beloved country.”
Highlights from members of Congress who spoke at the March for Life include:
Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), chairman of the House pro-life caucus, said that President Barack Obama will talk about returning to American values during his State of the Union address on Tuesday.
“Mr. President, the violent destruction of children in the womb – killing babies -- is not an American value,” Smith said.
Rep. Daniel Lipinksi (D-Ill.) said it was time to “conquer the culture of death and spread the culture of life” in America.
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.), who introduced the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act of 2011, said the Obama administration was “at war” with “people who believe in the sanctity of life.”
