ICE Union Head: 'DHS and ICE Knowingly Manipulate Arrest and Deportation Data'

April 19, 2013 - 3:12 PM

At an event hosted by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) yesterday, ICE union president Chris Crane said that ICE and DHS are manipulating arrest and deportation data to cover up lax border enforcement.

Crane, president of the National ICE Council, which represents approximately 7,600 officers, agents and employees who work for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), charged that the agencies are intentionally manipulating data in order to mislead Americans:

"Immigration agents have filed a lawsuit against DHS Janet Napolitano and ICE Director John Morton because both have refused to enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress.

"DHS and ICE knowingly manipulate arrest and deportation data with the specific intent of misleading the American public with regard to the enforcement of illegal immigration in our country."

Crane said ICE border enforcement has been stopped - and that the administration is manipulating arrest data  to mask the deterioration of border security:

"At an alarming rate, ICE arrests and deportation numbers have plummeted since 2008. Clear evidence that interior enforcement has, in large part, been shut down in recent years."

"In an attempt to conceal ICE's plummeting arrest and deportation statistics, massive numbers of border patrol apprehensions are being transferred to ICE to boost ICE's statistical data."

Crane said the American people are being fed a variety of false claims:

"ICE's claims that it has deported more illegal aliens than any time in history is false. ICE's claims that its efforts have led the deportation of more criminal aliens are false. ICE and DHS claims that the interior and the border are more secure, likewise, are false."
