Sixty years ago today, 14-year-old Emmett Till's life was tragically taken. Till was a boy from Chicago who was brutally murdered in Mississippi for allegedly whistling at a white woman. Emmett's killers were acquitted of the crime, which left the nation reeling. His brutal death at the hands of racists revealed a world where Jim Crow laws, segregation and hatred existed.

High school students have so much to contend with in today’s world that can zap their passions, lower their self-esteem, and force them to back away from their convictions. So seeing young students rise up to face a hostile school administration for censorship and discrimination is quite unbelievable, and very brave. Three high school students – two in Fargo, North Dakota and one in Hampton, Iowa – right now, are publicly challenging their school administrations for deliberately censoring their Students for Life clubs and denying them their right to exist as school-based clubs because the abortion issue is “too controversial.” But their stories are only the tip of the iceberg.

Changing the culture to become a Culture of Life instead of one that devalues life is a challenge. Change has to happen in homes, on college and high school campuses, in the media, in work places and in government. Laws have to change to protect the most innocent among us – the preborn. Voting pro-life matters, and legislators who run on the pro-life message have an obligation to uphold those values when it comes to actually casting their votes.
