As a country whose laws show little respect for life at its most vulnerable stages, it should come as no surprise that the government, in efforts to control costs, will begin to limit hospital stays for those covered by Medicaid.

March 31 will mark the five-year anniversary of the needless death of my sister, Terri Schiavo.   It is difficult to believe this much time has passed since that horrible event which will be forever seared into my memory.

During my family's battle to save my sister Terri Schiavo from death by dehydration, a tremendous amount of debate raged over whether or not she was in what the medical profession refers to as a persistent vegetative state (PVS).   Indeed, the PVS diagnosis was used as one of the deciding factors in whether my sister should live or die. It was the core catalyst in the court ordering the removal of Terri’s food and water.
